Many clients feel spoilt for choice but the great thing is we always strongly recommend you choose a combination of Harmony lasers treatments for optimal results. This is because each one of the lasers treats a slightly different depth and concern. There is a little overlap of skin concerns that they treat at times so there is no need to just pick one treatment for the entire course. You can simply mix n match!

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Fractional Skin Resurfacing work?

Tiny microscopic holes are made in the skin with the laser which stimulate new baby collagen and elastin to be formed. This has an instant skin tightening effect which helps minimise large pores, reduces acne scars, reduces excess oil production, smoothes skin, reduces breakouts and acne, exfoliates skin, smoothes skin whilst reducing fine lines & wrinkles.

Am I suitable for Laser Treatment?

Treatment is suitable for most people and highly recommended for individuals wanting a brighter, more even skin tone, smoother skin texture with improved skin elasticity, a reduction of wrinkles, reduced pore size and improvement to scars (including acne scars) and stretch marks.

X Close

How long does Laser Resurfacing last on your face?

On average, clients can expect laser skin resurfacing results to last anywhere from 2-5 years from having their treatment. It takes 12 months to see full results from each treatment.

X Close

Which Laser Resurfacing is best?

At Fiji Skin Clinic we only invest in medical and surgical facial treatment equipment to ensure our treatments deliver results. We use the Lynton Lumina which is currently used in the NHS today.

X Close

Is Laser Resurfacing better than fillers & injectables?

Laser resurfacing will definitely reduce fine lines & wrinkles as it stimulates new collagen & elastin. Fractional Laser Resurfacing will also tighten the skin, improve the texture of the skin and reducing open pores whilst deeply exfoliating the skin which injectables will not.

How many people do you see who invest in injectables but have dull, congested or lack lustre skin? The only thing that Laser resurfacing won’t do is relax the muscles. The combination of muscle relaxing injectables & Laser Resurfacing is also an option with no contraindications. We always advise waiting 4 weeks after injectables before having any laser treatment.

What are the cons of Laser Resurfacing?

There are very few cons about laser resurfacing other than the down time which is dependant on settings, the results are so worth it though (Down time can be from 2 – 7 days). With a thorough consultation there is a very low risk to Post inflammatory Pigmentation even on skin of colour. We perform a small patch on the area to assess how each clients skin responds. If pigmentation was to form it would only be temporary and it would be observed after the initial patch test. Laser resurfacing is suitable for all skin of colour, we have specific treatment settings to safely treat darker skin tones. If you are nervous about your first Laser Facial Treatment we can simply use gentle settings. There is also minimal risk to bacterial infections as the skin is not broken as with micro needling. If a client has a history of cold sores we would always advise a course of anti viral medications to give peace of mind and reduce any risk of a break out.

X Close

How often should I have Laser Resurfacing done?

The length of time between your laser resurfacing treatments will depend on our recommendations, your skin type, and other factors. In general, the skin needs about four weeks between laser treatments to recover and be ready for the next session.

X Close

Is it permanent?

There are no treatments out there that is a permanent solution as we can’t stop the ageing process. After a course of laser resurfacing we always recommend regular annual top up treatments. Many people do notice immediate results on their skin which continue to improve over the next 12 months.

X Close

Is Laser Resurfacing worth it?

Hell yes!! Laser resurfacing is a gold standard advanced treatment and we have a medical NHS laser so it simply doesn’t get any better! It significantly decreases the appearance of fine lines, breakouts and open pores on the face. It can also treat loss of skin tone and improve the texture if you have scars, acne scars or sun damage. You would never consider microdermabrasion or derma-planing again as one laser resurfacing treatment is the equivalent to dozens of microdermabrasion or derma-planing.

X Close

How painful is Laser Resurfacing on face?

Laser Resurfacing is very tolerable and no numbing cream is required. We perform a patch test so that clients can experience the sensation and the skin warmth after treatment only last for about an hour. Your skin can feel tight and hot like it would if you had been to the beach on a very sunny day.

X Close

What does your skin look like after Laser Resurfacing?

Skin will be more red for the day of the treatment and then as your skin heals it will have a more bronzed look. The great thing about the patch test is that we do a number of patch tests at different settings so that you can gauge the down time and decide on which settings you would like.

X Close

How many Laser Resurfacing treatments are needed?

It simply depends on the concern. For prevention one treatment every year is optimal however generally we recommend 1-3 treatments for a specific skin concern. For more severe acne scars or surgical scars it may be 3-6 treatments. Each treatment is 4 weeks apart.

X Close

Which is better Chemical Peel or Laser Resurfacing?

Chemical peels do reduce fine lines, open pores and rough skin. Lasers tackle more noticeable skin conditions such as texture and skin tightening, and deeper lines and wrinkles, as well as all the peel benefits. We recommend one Laser Resurfacing treatment once a year to deeply exfoliate and maintain healthy glowing skin.

X Close

What is a better treatment, Laser Resurfacing or Microdermabrasion?

Without a shadow of a doubt, Fraction Laser Resurfacing, it works on a much deeper level and has so many more benefits besides exfoliating the top layer of the skin. Microdermabrasion is an outdated, old fashioned dinosaur in the world of aesthetics and cannot compete with the results of a Fractional Laser Resurfacing treatment. Once you have had a Fractional Facial, you will never enquire about a microdermabrasion again and you will never need to.

X Close

Is Laser Resurfacing painful?

Comfort level depends on the settings we are using and the client’s tolerance for pain. All warmth and erythema tends to disappear within 60 mins of treatment and skin has a wind burn feel that will remain for 24-48 hours depending on the settings used. Clients compare the sensation felt during laser treatments to a rubber band snapping against their skin. It does feel warm and it the heat can feel uncomfortable. It’s definitely not any sensation that is long lasting or that cannot be soothed with a cool compress, and the results are so worth it, you’ll never spend money on a microdermabrasion again!

Laser Resurfacing and Sun Exposure, what’s the wait time?

As with any resurfacing treatment, Laser based treatment or deep exfoliation treatment, your skin will be sensitive to light exposure. It is extremely important you are careful with your skin for a minimum of 6 weeks after your treatment. Throughout the whole year we advise that you wear SPF any way as gold standard to reduce the signs of ageing. We advise that you stay out of direct sunlight for a minimum of 4 weeks, and if going into the sunshine, try to wear a hat that shades your face, spf 50 and sunglasses to protect your skin. Remember, any laser based treatment or exfoliating treatment will cause light sensitivity and risk of burning if the skin is exposed to direct sunlight.

X Close

Is Laser Resurfacing better than CO2 Laser?

Laser resurfacing works by creating microscopic holes in the skin which stimulates collagen and elastin, as well as encouraging new skin. This doesn’t damage the top layer of the skin meaning short healing time, comfort throughout treatment and minimal risks. Whereas C02 lasers vaporise the top layer of the skin, meaning much longer healing (as long as 2 weeks, sometimes longer in some cases!), higher discomfort and high risks.

IS THE HARMONY IPIXEL AN ABLATIVE LASER

The Ipixel is known as a semi ablative laser. An ablative laser means it creates tiny perforations in the surface of the skin which are only a few millimetres deep. The treatment feels hot at the time and for approximately 60 mins after the laser treatment which is why numbing cream is applied 30 minutes before treatment. During the facial laser treatment the YAG laser creates tiny microscopic holes in the skin stimulating a healing response and a deep ‘peel like’ effect. The skin the sheds all the dead skin over the following days revealing younger looking, smoother skin. The microscopic holes made by the laser begin to heal and more collagen is produced. This increase in collagen remodels the skin improving scars, pore size, texture whilst pigment will also begin to fade.

WHAT IS LASER RESURFACING

During a facial laser treatment the YAG laser creates tiny microscopic holes in the skin stimulating a healing response and a deep ‘peel like’ effect. The treatment feels hot at the time and for 60 mins after the laser treatment. The skin the sheds all the dead skin over the following days revealing younger looking, smoother skin.

It works on every layer of the skin down to the dermis to stimulate the skin cell turnover, stem excess oil flow in the face, kickstart the collagen and elastin formation, resurface the skin’s surface and rejuvenate the skin’s appearance.

WHAT DOES LASER RESURFACING DO?

If ageing, open pores, acne scars, breakouts, acne, or too much time in the sun has left your face with blotches, scars, wrinkles, or lines, laser skin resurfacing may help your skin look younger and healthier. Laser skin resurfacing removes dead skin layer by layer with precision. The new skin cells that form during healing give the skin a tighter, younger looking surface.

DOES LASER RESURFACING WORK?

The Ipixel laser on every layer of the skin down to the deeper dermis to stimulate the skin cell turnover, stem excess oil flow in the face, kickstart the collagen and elastin formation, resurface the skin’s surface and rejuvenate the skin’s appearance. We believe that everyone would benefit from one laser skin resurfacing treatment a year to maintain healthy glowing skin. Just one resurfacing treatment a year would reduce the signs of ageing from the age of 25 years when combined with a quality SPF. Laser resurfacing works on the deeper layers of the skin (Dermis) to dramatically stimulate new skin cell turnover. This means a laser facial treatment deeply exfoliates your skin. After one treatment your skin is significantly left looking and feeling baby soft. Facial laser treatments also stimulate new collagen & elastin which has a skin tightening effect.

X Close

HOW LONG DOES LASER RESURFACING LAST?

Results from one laser resurfacing treatment can take up to 12 months to see full results. Whilst skin can feel softer and look brighter after one treatment we always recommend a course for any scarring or larger pores.

X Close

HOW PAINFUL IS LASER RESURFACING

Many clients tolerate laser resurfacing really well with out any form of numbing prior to treatment. However we do offer numbing cream before laser treatments on deeper settings. The skin can feel warm and tight for about an hour post treatment. During your patch test you will get to experience the sensation which clients find reassuring. Healing time and sensations all depend on settings used so we can always start off gently for your first treatment if you are nervous.

WHAT DOES LASER RESURFACING DO TO THE SKIN

Laser creates microscopic holes in the skin which  stimulate a healing response with more collagen and elastin to smooth skin, reduce pores, improving skin texture, fade surface pigment and scars etc

X Close

WHAT IS THE RECOVER TIME AFTER LASER RESURFACING

After approximately 4-10 days the surface layers of the skin slough/peel away, instantly revealing younger looking and feeling smoother skin on the face & body.  Down time depends on settings so speak to your practitioner and book in a patch test to experience it first and see for your self.
