What is the Difference between Microneedling and Radio Frequency Microneedling?

You may have heard of Microneedling and Radio Frequency Microneedling, but what is the difference?

More recently Radio Frequency Microneedling was developed as an alternative to microneedling that provides skin tightening as well as facial contouring. The Morpheus8 is a surgical device that coagulates excess fat under the chin and jawline to contour and define the face. This is in addition to all the benefits mentioned above for microneedling. Radio frequency microneedling combines two treatments in one which are microneedling with Radio Frequency. Radio Frequency has also been around for decades and also has thousands of clinical white papers to confirm significant benefits in tightening skin, reducing pores, reducing eye bags, eye lift, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, reducing acne scars & surgical scars, stretch marks, volumising skin, stimulating more collagen & elastin etc. This means that you have two technologies working on the skin at the same time which doubles the treatment and results!

RADIO FREQUENCY MICRONEEDLING & FACIAL CONTOURING

The main benefit to Radio Frequency Microneedling over Microneedling is that it sculpts and contours the face as well as defines cheek bones. This is possible due to the heat from the radio frequency and depth of needles used. Radio Frequency Microneedling will get rid of double chin whilst also tightening skin. Microneedling is more superficial and treats more textural concerns as the needles don’t penetrate as deep.

Radio Frequency Microneedling will still treat all the superficial concerns but the skin boosters as the heat from the Radio Frequency seals the holes in the skin so no serum can penetrate deeper. This means that microneedling with skin boosters may be a better option to treat the following concerns; pigmentation, dry skin, uneven skin tone, Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH), Post Inflammatory Erythema (PIE), hair loss etc.

Benefits of Microneedling the body

After weight loss or Postpartum clients can be left with saggy skin on the body which can look crepey and gets worse over time. Radio Frequency Microneedling is preferred over microneedling because the needle depth is deeper.  There is the addition of the heat from the Radio Frequency to really tighten the skin further.  Radio Frequency Microneedling & Microneedling are both really effective at improving surgical scars and stretch marks too! It’s important to note that its best to treat stretch marks and surgical scars as soon as possible for maximum results. If they are still new and pink then book asap, don’t delay! 

MICRONEEDLING WITH SKIN BOOSTERS

The only benefit to microneedling over Radio Frequency Microneedling is that Mesoestetic Skin Boosters can be applied to nourish and infuse the skin with Antioxidants, Vitamin C, Niacinamide, Peptides, Hylauronic Acids etc. This isn’t an option with Radio Frequency Microneedling as the heat from the radio frequency cauterises the blood vessels sealing the holes when the needle is withdrawn. This means there are no open wounds for the serums to applied into. This means there is very minimal pin point bleeding during Radio Frequency Microneedling compared to Microneedling. The benefit of skin boosters is that they can specifically target addition concerns especially if this is pigmentation, dry skin, uneven skin tone, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation PIH, post inflammatory erythema PIE, hair loss etc. It is not possible to treat these concerns with dry Microneedling or Radio Frequency Microneedling.
